Where It’s At- Beck’s 20th Anniversary

Beck by Piper Ferguson/ The Hell Gate- image is copyrighted, not for use without permission, to license this image, and other images of Beck through the years go here.

It’s already been 20 years since our lovable slacker came out with “Loser”. Since then, we’ve anticipated his gift for ad-lib and re-invention with each album. Good article on Beck’s career arc in Grantland.  We’ve been luck to have wonderful photos of Beck throughout his career by Martyn Goodacre, Piper Ferguson and Anna Webber.

We had a fun time on set at the end of 2012 for Merri Cyr’s shoot of Hank & Cupcakes in her Greenpoint studio. Known for strong looks and live performances, the duo came with a suitcase full of amazing vintage clothes and ideas, and did not dissapoint. With the Cupcakes “You always get extra weird.” The cactus was not harmed during the shoot. View the gallery on Hell Gate Production.

Andrew WK- Home For The Holidays

Andrew WK by Rebecca Smeyne/ The Hell Gate- image is copyrighted, not for use without permission. To license this set go here.

We had a feeling this was too good to be true… we hate when we’re right sometimes. Andrew WK will not be in Bahrain as a cultural ambassador on behalf on the State Department over the holidays. His abruptly canceled trip still has not been given a reason from the State Department, all the details from Pitchfork are here.  Pity, we were really looking forward to Andrew spreading his message of positive partying to Bahrain. Could this have lead to peace in the Middle East? We’ll never know, but we do know what Andrew WK’s NYC apartment looks like. Rebecca Smeyne photographed it back in June, perhaps he’ll be here for the holidays.
