Back in 2006 Against Me! played the Mean Fiddler in London. The gig was recorded for the live album Americans Abroad!!! Against Me!!! Live in London!!!” Pat Graham was on hand to photograph the show. Danny Clinch and Frank Stefanko’s joint exhibit of Bruce Springsteen photography “From Darkness To A Dream” will be exhibiting at the Pelle Unger Gallery in Stockholm, Sweden from May 10th- June 20th. Both Frank and Danny have shot some of the most iconic photos of Bruce- Stefanko shooting the album cover for “Darkness On The Edge of Town” and Danny picking up the mantle and shooting recent albums. We’ve seen the prints of what’s on display and know the material very well- it is a must see, especially if you are a Boss fan.

Adam DeAngelis has been documenting the Warped Tour since 2007 along with covering the Washington D.C. scene before moving to NYC this year. Not only is he photographing for various publications such as Alternative Press, he’s managed to self publish 2 books, film a documentary and start music-based charity 11:11 AM to support Andrew McMahon of Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin’s fight with cancer. It’s a wonderful organization that is using the music community to raise dollars and awareness for young adult and pediatric cancer. Not too long ago we blogged about the John Peel Project and now it’s underway. What’s in this recent Guardian article is not surprising- we all know that record enthusiasts are not the most tidy of folks, but they know exactly what is in their collection and God forbid anything is misplaced, they will freak out… it’s uncanny and Peel was no different. His filing system is akin to a on old school library card catalouge, which in endearing. The first entry has been cast and you can now follow the John Peel Project here.

What’s In a Name

We find ourselves explaining where we got our name from… a lot.

No, we are not Death Metal or Goth freaks- The Hell Gate is an actual bridge in Astoria Queens- a unique, beautiful, gothic style railroad bridge & synonymous with the East River view to take we have on life from Queens NY.
We chose not to go down the Donald Trump school of naming routes (random use of latin) or name ourselves or play the bullshit bingo option of using a variation on “stock” “pic” “foto” etc etc – the fodder stock school of no imagination.

A beautiful photograph of the Hell Gate bridge from the 1940s is in the link here, you’ll have to scroll down a bit to get to it – the actual website of the NYC Municipal online photo gallery is currently down because so many people logged onto it yesterday .

Fixers had a 3 day stint in NYC from April 17th-2oth and if you were lucky enough to catch them live, then you witnessed something quite fantastic. Their debut album We’ll Be the Moon is out on May 14th on Vertigo Records. In addition to elevating their songs live, the band was extremely fun and charming on and off stage. Nina Robinson got to kick it with them on the Lower East Side. These guys are already garnering heavy buzz, so catch them now before they blow up. View the feature gallery.
