Art Of The Power Ballad A La Li

Lykke Li by Katja Ruge/ The Hell Gate

Lykke Li by Katja Ruge/ The Hell Gate

Been meaning to give Lykke Li’s third album I Never Learn an earnest listen. From what we’ve gleamed it’s a break up album, which tend to be great and this really fun/ insightful review on Grantland has sealed the deal for us. Any one that that fully embraces the power ballad is aces in our book. Now it’s time for some Foreigner.

Back in 2006 Against Me! played the Mean Fiddler in London. The gig was recorded for the live album Americans Abroad!!! Against Me!!! Live in London!!!”   Pat Graham was on hand to photograph the show. We love the photo above of singer Tom Gabel right before hitting the stage and right after leaving it. To view more images from the gig and to license them go here.

Sometimes I’ve Forgot You’ve Gone

Warren Ellis by Sophie Jarry/ The Hell Gate- image is copyrighted, not for use without permission

“Horses” by the Dirty Three is definitely one of the albums we’d need if stranded on a deserted island. We love everything about the Dirty Three- their incredible live performances, Warren’s amusing stage banter,  the nuances of their studio recordings and the impressive collaborations they’ve done outside of the band. They’ve been so busy with other projects that we were starting to wonder if they’d ever release another album (it’s been  7 long years since “Cinder” was released) but to our elation they are releasing a new studio album out on Drag City February 28th-“Toward the Low Sun”–  MP3 of “Rising below” available here. Can’t wait for the tour.
